The M-41 SABER Improved Target Acquisition System (ITAS) is designed to provide improved target acquisition and fire control for the BGM-71 TOW (Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided) anti-tank guided missile. It contains an integrated Target Acquisition System, Fire Control System, modified Traversing Unit, Far Target Locator, and a power source for dismount operation. ITAS increases target detection, acquisition, recognition and engagement ranges and is used in all versions of the TOW missile from both the M41 ground launcher and the M1121 high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle platform. It uses a thermal imager, eye safe laser rangefinder, and a gunner-aided target tracker to improve the target recognition range and increase hit probability.
In high tempo operations common to the combat environment, an ITAS digital fire control computer is crucial to providing rapid tactical target acquisition and tracking, missile tracking, and reconnaissance capability. PIDESO provides engineering and technical support services that include computer aided design and drawing updates and validation and verification of Target Acquisition System (TAS), Fire Control System (FCS) Line Replaceable Units. We also support Level III documentation and conversion of drawings from Pro/Engineer to AutoCAD and provide design services, fabrication and assembly of Adapter cables for DIT-MCO testing.
